Round Five: Something to Mull over

Post by Actionman on Thu Apr 03, 2014 1:32 am

Round 5 here and the table is looking very peculiar.

Pete is unbeaten and finding more backrow talent by the week.
Sam is logless and but riding a wave of Kelly, Sheck and Joel bloody Reddy - Nick would be turning in his grave
Danny's team of five-eights are winning and the slef-destruct button seems some way in the distance
Jasper - looks like he is actually coaching this season and making astute pick ups (and Matt Prior)
James has defeated 2 former premiers on the back of broken down centres but still can't beat Timmah
Rich is only ahead of Tim due to a 2 point differential - or half a Dean Whare touchdown.
Tim has won a game
Mu's original halves combination of Mybe and M Blair haven't really improved with the 4 players who have lined up there this season scoring a grand total of 0 points to date...
Andreas (who Jasper said had the best squad) is dead last

And me - even though the team has shown some promising signs, its not exactly going to plan

But here comes Jarrod Mullen to save the day - Milford and Johnson may look tricky and fast - Mullen is the man to steady the ship. Official reports have him back in round 10, but I'm hearing he might boot up next weekend. Here's hoping!

So to the 2006 Grand Final Replay - that was a sweet hiding I handed out by the way.
For a team called the Hipsters - I think they have the most unfashionable team going around. Matt Prior, Josh Starling, Jermey Latimore, Ben "part-time bench man" Hannant, Jarrad Kennedy - and coached by Mr Cool Ricky Stuart.

I believe that Saturday also doubles as a meat eating contest for Ede's birthday - although I will give you favouritism in that battle of the bulge, I think I got you covered this weekend.

Dragons by 16 - with Johnson to keep up the big scoring against the hapless Sharks.

In other less important games:
LFB to keep marching now that the Bair have lost their spiritual leader J-Ro - watch out for a big performance from Jason Nightingale at the SCG
Jaffas to bounce back over the Shams - with Sheck to go crazy
M&Ms to put the Tractors in their place - thanks to SBW
And the KKs to show some fight and edge out the Zooms in a classic - courtesy of Corey P

You're just jealous that I have more 5/8s than you do...

SBW is not enough to save the pitiful Merks.  Dreas' problem this season has been not getting enough DF's (3-1-4), and being punished by other teams racking them up.  Coming up against the strongest defensive pack in the comp (10-3-3), I see the trend continuing again this week.

Not only that, but we just signed Dallin, one of the most hyped kids in RL, Walker's back to his prefered try scoring position, and our freaks, GI and Nofo, have been suspiciously quiet in the last few weeks.  I expect another solid forward display, but a massive haul from the outside backs.

Dreas to get smoked by 20+, and Tractors to pick up our first home win.
LFB to run amok at The Punchbowl.
Jaffs returning Timmah to a usual weekend of chicken and disappointment.
Zooms to out score the Krims thanks to their backline.
Dalston to find a way to sneak past the Drags in a tight London derby.

A wise coach once told me Backs win matches, Forwards win premierships. This week its all about the piggies at punchie.

Taumalolo, Bromwich, Ma'u, Ennis, McQueen and Kennedy all posted disappointing perfromances last week and significant improvement is required.

The old tackle bags have seen a workout during the week and the recent signings of Tommy and Jacko to create some healthy competition for spots.

Predictions for the week:
LFB to steamroll the OA (who are somehow sitting in 6th position on the ladder how is this possible?!@) No R Patz, No Simmons, No JWH, No contest....

Drags to sneak over the Hipsters, SJ to run riot in the shire.

Hard to go past the Jaffs in the new born cup

Tractors to get it done over the Merk.

Zooms look to have stopped the rot, big score against the Krims

Oh and congratulations to Danny for finally outbidding someone.

Yes the Bair would have been a bit devo'ed with the loss of J-RO but TOA strategy is far from the Bair strategy. You get injured or dropped for more than a couple weeks when playing for TOA you're out (apart from you Cam, we love you). J-Ro's injury was met with a bit of a sigh of relief from Mitch Brown who assumed his place was therefore a bit more secure, that kind of attitude won't be tolerated... thus he's gone too. We only have the one standard around here.

TOA take out the Flaming TP by a couple of tries
Hipsters over the dragons. Even I know that J Mullen is about as effective as Ricky Kidd ten pin bowling
Jaffas over Hams in what will be the snooze fest of the weekend
Tractors to take out the MM although SBW might give us the first draw of the season
Tirau over KK - big game to see who joins the other big boys with 4 points

You can all get fucked, except Ben (weird to say) since he smartly has picked me to win. Put your money where your mouth is Danny, 20 bucks if i win. If i lose, a dollar for every point you beat me by.

As for the rest of you dicks...

LFB to continue their march to an inevitable championship or massive choke. Which superstar back rower are you going to trade for Campo this season Pete?
Drags to win as a courtesy to them picking me though the hipsters will be close, game of the round
Jaffs and Zooeys by plenty

Yeah you protected Friend and is a known NNRL machine - Paulo wasn't even picked in the draft and was on the bench last week.

Slightly different...

5 weeks in and Semi's got himself up and over the try line every week!

To answer Danny's many questions...

Less than an hour at the blackjack table

SBW is still rusty but my expert coaching will get him back in top form soon enough

Justin Hodges is a stand up guy and a role model to everyone he meets

Good work from the merks halves, both dropping goals that should see them score well in the people's player voting, LU had them as MOM in their respective games. Sandow will end up a buy of the year contender if he can keep up this form.

The Hipsters are soft under the belly - his post-modern lethargy is incapsulated by Matt Prior. Viva la Architecture-fag! No man that trendy should have a top 5 virtual league team.

more incomprehensible garbage from Actionman there.

Well two late scratchings certainly haven't helped my cause, injury upon injury in Dalston.

Nonetheless, for every 60 tackles Fensom makes, Nathan Friend makes 65.

Hipsters are definitely not out of it yet, with a lot of strike weapons yet to come.

And here comes the Hipsters backs, enveloping the Dragons in a suffocating air of reticent nonchalence.

Westeros will need something pretty special from their cowboys contingent to avoid marking the start of Season Four with a loss.

10 point lead with cooper v Boyd, JT, scott, taumalolo and Paul green left to battle it out.

Lfb continue their unbeaten streak

Votes in, Nofo gets a crucial point, giving the Trackies a 13 point lead with Beau Scott v Snowden & Cuthbertson tonight. Not a done deal, but I'm a whole lot happier than I was this time yesterday.

Sure, it's not quite the 20+ I predicted, but obviously more than happy with a margin of 14 (as it currently sits) with no kicker.

In other news, how bad did the Knights look?  64% completion rate, and it showed.  Good luck with Gidley there Benzo.

You are a prick Danny - thanks for driving up the price on Gidley, I know that's the only thing you wanted.

And thanks for the assist Sipp.

Lets hope Poor Gidley gets the kicking tee back next weekend!

Is it my turn to mention the two players you are chasing? Is that how the forum works these days?

In fairness to Ben, i thought it was a rule that no-one talked about bids on the forum until they came through and were finalized

I assumed the purchase was a done deal when i saw Pete bring it up

Don't worry Sipp it's ok. I easily forgive - I won't make it up with outing someone you are trying to pick up later in the season...

In fairness to Pete, i already knew about it, as i am in the market for a new kicker.

And yes, it was a genuine bid. Gidley is likely to gey a kicker downgrade in the nexr week or two, if not today. Plus did you see how many tackles he made last night? My downfall was i was too tired to stay up till 4am to snipe Ben off guard...

relax he will be out of action again in 2 weeks time when he remembers that he is Kurt Gidley and that he has only played 11 games in 3 seasons.

And on a different topic can somebody please teach liam fulton to tackle without his using his head? Hes not Nate Myles!!!

His 3 concussions in 4 matches are killing his minutes.... and probably him.
